Made in 100% stainless steel, this is packed with aromatics of fresh green melon, citrus, and grassy/herbal notes. On the palate, it’s bright and steely with apple and quince notes that lead to a gorgeous chalky middle courtesy of the limestone with great minerality. It’s the perfect poolside sipper at the price, but don’t think that means it’s not a great candidate for food. Anything summer salad, out of the ocean or with poultry, and this should perfectly complement the meal.
The parcels here are situated on vast limestone deposits of lacustrine origin, a near-perfect mix of clay and prehistoric shells. On the surface, fine gravel left from when the river used to have a different route – keeps the vineyards super dry and incredibly distinctive. There are no other vineyards in the whole Centre-Val de Loire quite like them. The Sauvignon Blanc from here is pure, almost transparent with a touch of silver and features aromas of maritime salinity, lemon rind, and a touch of grapefruit. The whole mouthfeel is bold, fruity, and refreshing.
Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.
