For years, we’ve sold oceans of Tony Soter’s Etude Lyric Pinot Noir for fifteen bucks a bottle or so. Other than CHAD, it’s pretty much the only ‘value’ domestic Pinot Noir I’ve ever cared for. Why did customers love it so much? Well, first off- it’s a fantastic price. People love that. But more importantly – it’s a well-made, truly gulpable Pinot – full of easy, breezy bright cherry fruits and truly suitable as a cocktail wine.

“Made in tiny quantities, the 2020 Chardonnay Puerta Del Mar Vineyard Special Bottling is a deeper, richer, more serious Chardonnay that warrants serious attention. Offering classic Chardonnay stone fruits, toasted brioche, and chalky minerality, it hits the palate with medium to full-bodied richness, a layered, concentrated mouthfeel, high yet integrated acidity, subtle oak, and a great finish. It brings another level of depth and complexity and is a brilliant Chardonnay.”
The 2020 Santa Barbara from Ojai is another gorgeous Pinot Noir from the winemaking genius, Adam Tolmach. It leads with aromas of raspberry, cassis, currant leaf and lilac. On the palate, it’s medium-bodied, fine-boned and savory with velvety tannins, a crunchy core of fruit and a long, sapid finish. If you haven’t had an Ojai Pinot Noir, this is a great place to start.
For the first time ever (I’ve been trying for 5 years), we got our hands on Sea Smoke’s elusive, exclusive and exquisite Santa Rita Hills Chardonnay, the famous cool climate Chard that helped propel this tiny winery into the elite stratosphere and cult status. Made with Dijon and Wente clones, they use stainless steel as well as French oak foudres and demi-muids to ferment their Chard, producing and elegant and laser focused Chardonnay.
