Drawn from two choice spots in the Columbia Valley where Washington’s high desert land meets the Columbia River – the 2018 Cascade Heights is a juicy, inky purple, full-bodied Cabernet. Despite the bright tannins that argue for a successful drinking window of over 10+ years, this big, juicy cab is drinking excellent right now. The ‘X’ factor though is the price. At just $15/btl on bottle 1, this is unrivaled value territory.
Chad’s new 2018 Walla Walla Cabernet is an anomaly. Cut off one of the hottest AVAs in the world right now, the Cuvée is sourced from the basalt-cobblestone gravelly soils of Walla Walla. With a dark-purple color all the way to its rim, the wine is aromatically complex, with classic Crème de cassis mingled with violets and savory spice. On the palate, it’s classic, medium to full-bodied Cabernet Sauvignon with notes dark currants, sweet tobacco and impeccable balance. The finish is long and silky with no hard edges and fine tannins.
Sourced from two vineyards in the Columbia Valley of Washington State, both with very special iron rich clay that produces pure, juicy Cabernet fruit. Winemaker, Anne Sery made the wine in neutral wood, choosing to feature and emphasize the pristine quality of the fruit. This is bright and juicy Cab, loaded with flavors of cassis and black berries with just a touch of coffee and dark chocolate. It’s the perfect party Cab, delicious by itself or a great complement to just about anything off the grill.
