After a long wait, our own barrel of top-shelf Codigo 1530 Resposado. I’m very excited to release this one and those of you who know me know that I don’t get excited very often. This one is different. This barrel was aged 6 months in a medium char barrel previously used for top quality Napa Cabernet. 90 proof, the nose has that wonderful cooked agave smell with honey suckle and vanilla. On the attack, fresh citrus, black pepper and roasted pineapple. I’m not sure if this one can go into Margaritas. Maybe if you get more than one bottle. What a treat.
El Tesoro is one of the oldest family run Tequila distilleries still around. Most of the big houses are using a mechanical press now instead of the “Tahona” stone (A huge volcanic stone that is turned by mules). Usually this method is only reserved for the most expensive tequilas. To find one under $60 is pretty rare. This is my second of two barrels. The first one sold out in a few days. I tasted these side by side and think this one might have the edge of the two. All those lucky enough to score the first barrel, I’d love to hear if you agree. Don’t wait too long on this one with Cinco de Mayo around the corner!
This Single Barrel vintage barrel was put into oak in 2007. It’s bottled at 86.6 Proof and it has a ton of zest to it. It’s a bigger and bolder expression them some other years, bottled after only spending 8 years in barrel as opposed to some which are 9+. This was already showing exceptionally though which is why it got pulled early. Caramel, cinnamon, butterscotch notes with a long middle a good burn that leaves a little honey behind with the heat.
Jefferson’s Bourbon is the brainchild of Trey Zoeller & his father Chet, a famed bourbon historian and author of Bourbon in Kentucky. They are continuing a family tradition that goes WAY back to Trey’s 8th generation grandmother who was arrested in 1799 for the “production & sales of spirituous liquors.” Grandma was truly a pioneer as she is the first documented example of a woman in the whiskey business. My Reserve Single Barrel is #68 and I’m telling you, you won’t forget it. A richly textured body, packed with a punch of caramel, roasted pineapple, vanilla & coffee with a long creamy finish that goes on for a mile. 100 Proof.
This Barrel was born in June, 21st 2016.
Proof- cask strength 108.1 Proof
On the nose this one has seductive notes of ripe summer fruit with hints of tobacco and toasted oak. On the palate, it gives a heavy dose of caramel maple and overripe banana with a long lingering finish of rye spice, toasted marshmallow and butterscotch. This is one of Peerless’ first single-barrel five year olds they’ve ever released and the first in New Jersey. It is an absolute treat.
This Barrel was born in July 2016.
Proof- cask strength 113.2
On the palate it will smack you in the face with vanilla, pancake batter & maple. The finish is long & shockingly smooth for 113 proof. I would guess no more than 100 proof. I always think that’s the mark of a great barrel.Good luck, act fast & buy more than one because it will be gone for sure when you try to get another later.
There’s not much to say about this one other than it’s one of the best bottles of Bourbon in the world at any price and also one of the harder ones to get your hands on. This is actually from the last barrel that Eddie Russell and Wild Turkey ever made at 107 Barrel Entry Proof for the 16-year (switched to 110 proof in 2005). Eddie Russell had raved to me about his 2003 16-year, so I asked him for a few bottles to make sure I wasn’t missing out. I started with just 3.. and I’m quickly down to my very last bottle.
