This is an outstanding producer in Trentino in the Alto Adige region that was recommended to us by our good friend Diego Bolognani. All of his winemaking friends know and love their wines, he explained. And here’s the part that blew me away– they even have a pretty significant advantage over the master himself: all their grapes are estate grown, unlike Diego who for years had to contract out for his grapes!
This is a stunning but rare offering and immensely crushable – just so good on it’s own. Like this summer’s Elbling, I’ve got a very special price while these bottles last. The Hahn SLH Chardonnay 2019 is gorgeous double 90-point wine that benefits from ocean breezes from Monterey Bay, and a fog that burns off extreme later in the day. This single-vineyard expression allows for the grapes to reach maximize ripeness with great natural acidity and balance, making for an vibrant, high-toned Chardonnay that totally sings with or without food.

“The wine’s prominent vineyard signature or “sense of place” is its core driving feature, and this character is both clearly defined and focused in the wine’s flavor and structure. The wine’s fruit is initially crunchy and crisp before turning darker to sleek and succulent cassis and black cherry. It’s no wonder this is a hot little ticket amongst some of NYC’s best restaurants; this is a killer wine at a great price. The 2022 Petit Chablis has an attractive nose of citrus rind, white flowers, and wet stone. In the palate, the wine is racy and mineral with just a touch of salinity. The hallmark of the great 2022s will be tension and length and Sébastien’s little wine has both in spades. The acidic/mineral cut will make this fantastic at the table and a great candidate for short term aging.
