Freire Lobo Vigno Branco Dao 2024

This Vigno Branco showcases exactly what that natural approach delivers. A co-fermented blend of traditional Portuguese varieties – Encruzado, Bical, Cerceal, Fernão Pires, and Barcelo from sixty-year-old vines – it delivers layers of ripe apricots, chamomile, and orange blossoms with hints of key lime zest and fresh herbs. The palate is both silky and complex, building weight in the glass with warm, tree-fruit notes, briny minerality, and refreshing acidity that makes it incredibly versatile with food.

Elisa Lobo is cranking out some incredible reds and whites at mind-boggling prices.

She revitalized her family’s land in the Dao region where olive trees and grazing pastures alternated with vines planted in the 1950’s, rooted in sandy, granitic hillsides at 1800+ feet above sea level. It sounded like a good recipe for success in theory, but seeing the results over the past decade-plus has been remarkable. It’s pretty amazing how elegant and complex these wines are.

She’s the only woman winemaker in her region and she doesn’t slow down for a single second. In addition to the vineyards, the farm is home to olive groves for oil and 300 Bordaleira sheep.
