Victorine de Chastenay Cremant de Bourgogne Rose

91 Points, Vinous

This one sells you right from the minute you pour it. There’s a medley of bubbles that fill the glass and come out of the gates beautifully aromatically. You get the red fruits: cranberry, cherry, raspberry, and strawberry but you also get some candied ginger, a little bit of minerality from the bubbles and a hint of baking spice towards the close. What a mass appeal type of Sparkler. You’d be a big hit if you were to bring this to any kind of occasion – I promise.

91 Points, Vinous
The NV Cremant Rose wafts up with a perfumed blend of incense, sweet roses and tangerine. It’s sharply focused with a chiseled bead of fine bubbles. A crisp minerality gives way to tart orchard fruits. This leaves the mouth watering for more as ginger and spice nuances slowly fade to reveal a salty staning of minerality.

Not all Crémant de Bourgogne are created equal. To say that Victorine de Chastenay has a leg up would be a bit of an understatement. For starters, the wines are made with 100 % Pinot Noir grapes from vines with an average 40 years of age. That’s not what you’re using for your typical Cremant!

Then when you take into account that this is also 100% Cote d’Or fruit, (a combination of Hautes Côtes de Beaune and Hautes Côtes de Nuits) this project continues to separate itself from anything that you’ve previously seen.

Direct pressed and then aged 20 months on the lees – this one comes roaring with plenty of personality and flair. Throw in the sensational tiny, persistent bubbles, the ample candied fruit and the tantalizing finish, you’ve got a recipe for something truly special.
