The Withers Pinot Noir Oppenlander Vineyard Mendocino (Vertical Mixed 6-Pack)

The Withers Pinot Noir Oppenlander Vineyard Mendocino 2021 and 2022: a side-by-side vertical comparison. I’m telling you, both of these are stellar wines that showcase just how good Mendocino Pinot Noir has gotten these past few years.

One of these wines got submitted for scoring and earned 93 points (the 2022 vintage). The other was never submitted, but comes from what most would argue is a better vintage, and to my palate was slightly better than the one reviewed. But because I really enjoyed evaluating and comparing these two side-by-side when I tasted them, I decided: why not offer both? Which one is better?!? The call is yours to make!

Each Mixed 6-Pack comes with the following two wines:
(3 Btls.) The Withers Pinot Noir Oppenlander Vineyard Mendocino 2021
(3 Btls.) The Withers Pinot Noir Oppenlander Vineyard Mendocino 2022

Original price was: $180.00.Current price is: $129.00.

Here’s why this wine is such a runaway success: David Low is the winemaker behind the scenes. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because he’s also the founding winemaker at Anthill Farms after spending a long time at Williams Selyem—two of the most sought-after Pinot Noir producers in California. This is the same guy regularly crafting $100+ bottles, and taking that expertise and putting it behind his brother’s passion project, with fruit he gets to select himself from the gorgeous Oppenlander Vineyard in Comptche.

Comptche is one of those insider secrets in Mendocino. It’s an area highly regarded for producing distinctive, “brooding” Pinot Noir with high acidity, savory forest floor notes, and structured brambly fruit from Dijon clones planted in a natural opening homesteaded in the 1860s.
