Domaine du Couvent Vosne-Romanée Les Barreaux 2022

This comes from the coolest part of the vineyard, where the grapes are last to ripen – and that’s exactly what gives us this incredibly deep yet pure expression. The 2022s are always showing incredible flashes – making them a hot commodity in the Burgundy world, but that’s about to get a lot murkier soon if tariffs hit.

The 2022, from vines planted in 1929, offers soaring aromatics of violets and red berries with exceptional aging potential. Even though it’s a lot earlier than I would like to go out, I think you may need to speak now or forever hold your peace (or travel to Burgundy with an empty suitcase) if you want a shot.

The elevation and exposure here are what makes this site so special. This high-altitude, North to East-facing plot sits on intensely calcareous soil that produces some of the most complex, mineral-driven Pinot Noir you can find anywhere.

It’s actually the coolest part of the entire vineyard, where the grapes are among the last to ripen in Vosne – and that’s exactly what gives us this incredibly deep yet pure expression. Here’s the fascinating part: decades ago, you couldn’t even ripen Pinot Noir here – it was simply too cold. But with today’s climate, this once-marginal site has become an absolute sweet spot for producing some of the most profound, age-worthy Pinot Noir in the entire world.
