Vigneti del Sole Montepulciano D’Abruzzo 2022 (Special Case Price)

Last year, we had the pleasure of snagging this wine which eventually was named Wall Street Journal’s #1 Italian bargain. After patiently waiting, the new vintage has finally arrived. It’s the kind of wine that we at NW would call a quintessential Tuesday Nighter or the perfect pizza wine. There’s so much to like here –  just so juicy and soft, but with a mouthwatering acidic backbone that sets up so well for a pairing at the dinner table. What a screaming value.

Original price was: $180.00.Current price is: $125.00.

Lettie Teague, Wall Street Journal
Simple, easy to drink and easy to like, this fruity, soft red comes in a bottle with a screw cap. A joint project between the Pasqua winemaking family and the importer, Skurnik Wines, it’s the quintessential great cheap red.

Lettie Teague, a well-respected wine writer for the Wall Street Journal did not mince words when she gave the top value spot in Italy last year to this little number from Vigneti del Sole.  She called it, “Simple, easy to drink and easy to like … it’s the quintessential great cheap red.” Based on all the orders and re-orders from Nicholas Wines readers’ I think it’s safe to say everyone agrees.

It comes from an independent, family-owned winery that has been making wines in the Veneto for three generations now. The team of brothers from the Pasqua family prioritize wines that appeal to a broad group of wine fans and aim to do it for a price that goes easy on the wallet.

There aren’t many doing it better in all of Italy. Or, I guess, according to Lettie Teague and the Wall Street Journal, there’s exactly 0 people doing this better.
