Pikesville Rye holds the title as the last standing Maryland rye brand. Originally produced in Maryland by L. Winand & Brothers Distillery starting in 1895, the brand went through several changes of ownership, and was last produced in Maryland in 1972 by the Majestic Distilling Corporation. In 1982, it was sold to Heaven Hills who currently own it and are responsible for releasing the Pikesville Straight Rye in 2015.
An immediate success, the Whiskey was given a Double Gold medal in the San Francisco World Spirits Competition, and even more importantly, was named the Second Finest Whisky in the World in Jim Murray’s Whisky Bible 2016 as well as the World’s Best Rye Whisky at the World.

This is the fourth and last installment of the Booker’s Small Batch collections from 2022. I’ve noticed that with each one, the quality continues to rise, but unfortunately it seems like that’s true of the price as well (for everything!). The Pinkie’s batch is in honor of Booker Noe’s dad, the original Frederick Booker Noe, better known as “Pinkie”. It’s a gorgeous Bourbon at over 122 Proof but you never feel the heat. It’s a seamless, gorgeous blend.
True whiskey and Knob Creek enthusiasts are going to go nuts for this one. Knob Creek Rye is as outstanding as it is rare but today we’re lucky enough to bring to you, my own single barrel of it. This is a big gold expression of Rye that holds nothing back. On the nose, there are hints of dill, rye and essence of charred oak. On the palate, you are hit over the head with baking spice, honey and freshly baked bread. The finish is certainly a warm “Kentucky Hug” that goes on forever.
This is obviously something very rare and very special. In fact, I only have one bottle and even that took some convincing. It’s worth it to a lucky collector though. This single malt is matured exclusively for twenty-five years in Oloroso sherry seasoned oak casks from Jerez, Spain. Laying undisturbed in the same casks for so long transforms this into a silky, luxurious single malt whisky characterized by its rich flavors of vanilla, dried fruits and ginger spice with a long finish and rich mahogany color.
The Redbreast 12-Year is probably their most notable for a few reasons. One is it’s still available for a great price, and the other is that it’s flat out delicious. There’s a reason this has a hundred accolades next to it, most recently taking home the trophy for World’s best Whiskey in 2019 at the Intl. Wine & Spirits Competition. But the 12-Year Cask Strength is way more rare and it is a pure and unadulterated version of the 12-Year. It’s so friggin good. Made in a combination of Oloroso Sherry Casks and Bourbon Barrels, the 12-Year Cask Strength is textbook single pot Whiskey made at a higher percentage than most Irish whiskeys you’ll find on the market.
