94 Points, James Suckling
This has lovely aromas of flowers, sliced strawberries and pomegranates with a stony element. The palate is nervy, with crunchy, juicy fruit and supple tannins. Medium-bodied but not insubstantial. Open and evident, but with a discreet structure. Drink now.

There’s purity and freshness in the red 2020 Rótulo Dão. It’s quite primary, with notes of red berries and herbs, a medium-bodied palate and some grainy tannins. It has some 60% grapes sourced from local growers. It has a moderate 12% alcohol.
There is currently a masterclass in the revitalization of the Bairrada region, driven by the collaboration between Sergio Silva and the Niepoort family. Since 2012, this partnership has completely transformed the estate into a biodynamic stronghold. By fostering a living ecosystem in their calcareous clay soils, they have unlocked an incredible sense of energy and structural tension in their fruit, primarily focusing on the native Baga for reds and Bical and Maria Gomes for their whites.
Dirk Niepoort and Sergio Silva were always amazed by the old wines of Dão. In 2014, they purchased this 200-year-old quinta very close to the Serra da Estrela mountains in prime granite soils with old vines. They immediately began transitioning the vineyards to biodynamics, completing certification in 2018.
The Rotulo wines are made with natural fermentations in very old, tall, cubical-shaped granite lagares. The granite soils lend a great deal of energy and lift to the wines, while the old vines and continental climate allow for concentration and bursting aromatics.
