Masciarelli Montepulciano d’Abruzzo 2019 (Case Only)

In the budding wine region of Abruzzo, few names if any carry as much weight as Masciarelli. The winery, founded by legendary winemaker Gianni Masciarelli in 1981 has become the standard bearer for the entire Abruzzo region, and an inspiration to all the emerging Italian wine regions. He’s the posterboy for not accepting ‘no’ as an answer.

It started after a summer interning in Champagne when Gianni became convinced that world-class wines could be made in his home of Abruzzo. He was originally laughed at by his peers, but through unrivaled vision and innovation his namesake winery has become one of the very best in all of Italy.

Original price was: $180.00.Current price is: $110.00.

91 Points, James Suckling
Clean, mixed brambleberry character with light herb and mineral touches. Medium-bodied with bright fruit, well-integrated and lightly firm tannins and a balanced finish. Always super value for money. Drink now.

90 Points, Wine Enthusiast
Primarily dark berries, the nose of this wine also has crushed stone and herbal aromas that come through at the end. The palate is sour red cherries, blackberries and more stone as well as a bit of milk chocolate pointed up by chalky, dusty tannins and lots of acid.

The 2019 is a must-have bottle – and the fact that a case only runs you less than $15 a bottle seems like flat-out highway robbery. It’s the perfect summer red, a treat for the barbecue, the beach, you name it. But more than that, this is just a special bottle of wine for the price. I can tell you with certainty, we’re not going to find anything of this quality for the price in pretty much any region anywhere.
