Le Fraghe Bardolino 2024

93 Points (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast

Le Fraghe’s winery sits perfectly perched overlooking the shores of Lake Garda. It benefits from the protection of the Dolomite Mountains, the micro-climate of the Adige River, and the mineral-rich soil surrounding the lake. The wines Le Fraghe makes are perfect for this weather—bright, fresh, crunchy and zippy, the kind that absolutely shines when it’s served slightly chilled in a glass.

Split cherries, crushed raspberries, wild thyme. Unexpected muscle under a gorgeous and pure exterior. The kind of wine that pairs with everything and disappears in a flash. Or as Wine Enthusiast perfectly put it, “Here’s your answer to the eternal ‘what pairs with everything’ question.”

Original price was: $28.00.Current price is: $19.99.

A wine that announces itself like June roses in full bloom. Split cherries and crushed raspberries lead you down a garden path where wild thyme grows. The palate shifts gears, showing unexpected muscle under its pretty exterior. Here’s your answer to the eternal “what pairs with everything” question.

Le Fraghe is one of Veneto’s most respected wineries. The estate sits perfectly perched overlooking the shores of Lake Garda, benefiting from the protection of the Dolomite Mountains, the microclimate of the Adige River, and the mineral-rich soil surrounding the lake. The wines are bright, fresh, crunchy, zippy—the kind that absolutely shine when served slightly chilled.

At the helm is Matilde Poggi, a legitimate institution in her region. Matilde has excelled at Le Fraghe for almost forty years now and serves as the President of the Italian Federation of Independent Winegrowers. She was recommended to us by the incredible Elisabetta Fagiuoli at Montenidoli—both share a similar story of being women who were pioneers in their appellations decades ago, both in terms of organic farming and rising above the sea of mediocrity that otherwise surrounds them.

Decanter once called this wine “a deceptively simple epicurean masterpiece,” and I couldn’t agree more. In a world of ever-rising costs, this is a true diamond in the rough.
