If you’ve been under a rock, you may have missed the meteoric rise of High West Distillery out of Park City, Utah. They are on an absolute roll and a few of their whiskeys are hot commodities to collectors and traders.
I have one of their newest and rarest releases, a limited roll out of Campfire Whiskey – a blend that they make using some of the finest scotch, bourbon and rye whiskey barrels they can get their hands on.
There’s so much going on here – it’s a pretty complex blend, but it gets increasingly better and more interesting with every return to the glass. This one checks in at 92 Proof (46% alc.) and has a ton of different caramel, oak, light smoke, leather, dried fruit and zesty spices that send your taste buds on a straight up roller coaster ride.

Our third single barrel of Whistle Pig and the first time we have our hands on their 6-year PiggyBack bottling. This one leads with a nose of freshly baked pumpernickel bread, butterscotch and toffee. On the palate, I get a lot of citrus & peach with a touch of lavender & black cherry. The finish here is strong & long with spicy dried fruits and caramel notes that linger. This one was distilled in house in Vermont, and as anyone can tell you with the farm releases, they always deliver the best of punches. This one comes in at 109.8 Proof.
In terms of rare and unique bottles go, this Japanese Whisky is up there with anything in the spirits world. It’s a blended whisky finished in Sakura (cherry blossom) casks and Hibiki® 30 Year Old, a rare annual release that retails for $5000/btl. Hibiki is a gorgeous blend of ten various malt and grain whiskies from Suntory’s Yamazaki, Hakushu and Chita distilleries. It’s super aptly named as all of these flavors and smells mesh together beautifully, with no shortage of flavors and aroma.
For my money, this might be both the best Whiskey under $50 and the most criminally under-priced Whiskey (not that I’m complaining). Whiskey Advocate has named this one to their 7 best under $60/bottlings, but as you can see this checks in way below. This small batch bourbon is made from barrels picked by father and son master distillers Jimmy and Eddie Russell. It’s as smooth as can be and jampacked with notes of caramel, vanilla, rye spice and burnt orange peel. Bottled at 90 Proof, this one leaves a nice, warm Kentucky hug that lingers nicely on the back palate.
Sinatra Select was a partnership with the Sinatra family and Jack Daniel’s that dates back to 2018. Jack as was always Sinatra’s go-to Whiskey, as was well-documented, so it makes sense that one of their most limited and special releases. They use these special barrels they designate as ‘Sinatra Barrels’ that have deep grooves carved into the staves specifically to expose the whiskey to extra layers of toasted oak. It’s bold with dried apricot notes, with a touch of honey, some vanilla and a layer of smokiness. It’s nothing like regular Jack Daniel’s, I can assure you of that.
