96 Points, James Suckling
Aromas of red and dark fruit, crushed stones, dried herbs, flowers and salt-cured meat. The palate is tightly woven with a silken mouthfeel, fine tannins and a succulent, minerally finish. A wine of real nerve and approachability young, with ample aging potential. A good example of what a cool vintage in a cool appellation can produce. Drink or hold.
Faust Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2023
96 Points, James Suckling
This was already one of the very best values in Napa Valley, and that was even before this gorgeous wine ended up at #4 on Wine Spectator’s 2024 Top 100 list. I mean it’s kind of hard to miss when you have a winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. But then when you factor in this is from the incredible new 2023 vintage and this comes with a rave 96-point review from James Suckling (his highest score for this wine ever) then this just might be Napa’s top premium Cabernet value period.
This is a full-bodied a racy mix of Coombsville and Atlas Peak fruit that gels so well and combines to be a big, fruit-forward Cabernet but with plenty of elegance. James Suckling described a palate that’s “tightly woven with a silken mouthfeel, fine tannins and a succulent, minerally finish”. At this price, it’s simply a must-have. There’s nothing else remotely like it in this category.

MORE INFO
For years now, we’ve been leaning hard on the winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. First, we offered Leviathan. Then, we had a rare allocation of Quintessa. Both at exceptional prices. But those offers pale in comparison to today’s final act, a two-for-one offer of “Baby Quintessa”, from project Faust, priced to be scooped up by the case. Don’t miss it.
Similar to the team at Quintessa (Michel Rolland/Andy Erickson) minus Rebekah Wineburg but with Charles Thomas (Opus One) and David Jelinek (Copain/Prisoner/Groth). The vineyard source out of this world – a little slice of heaven on the foothills of Atlas Peak in Coombsville. The wine is aged and bottled at Quintessa’s state-of-the-art winemaking facility.
Both have all the vineyard pedigree and winemaking prowess of Quintessa. They always receive the same big scores and positive press as their big name brother, but at prices that Napa rarely sees anymore for wines of this caliber. But in the 2023 vintage with a 96-point review right out of the gates?!? Forget about it!
