Domaine du Pas Saint Martin is a shining example of sustainable winemaking in the Loire Valley, largely thanks to the vision of pioneering winemaker, Laurent Charrier. Taking the reins from his grandfather in 1994, Laurent’s immediate priority was to transition the family estate to organic certification, a goal he impressively achieved by 1997.
While most of their vineyards lie in Saumur, they also cultivate plots in Anjou and Côteaux du Layon, allowing for a diverse expression of the region’s terroir. Their cellars are particularly unique, carved into ancient troglodyte caves formed from marine life, providing a naturally ideal environment for aging their wines.
Laurent is deeply passionate about biodiversity, both in his vineyards and the surrounding woodlands. This commitment extends beyond winemaking, as evidenced by his involvement in “Le Monde de Pierre Frite” since 2009—an interactive program designed to educate children about environmental awareness. His dedication to eco-friendly practices was officially recognized in 2012 when the domaine received the prestigious Eco-Trophée from the Parc National Loire-Anjou-Touraine.
