Lydia Cornu naturally farms small parcels in Pernand Vergelesses, Hautes Cotes de Beaune and the Hautes Côtes de Nuits. The Cornu family has grown grapes here for 600 years! That expertise is important as the high elevation and cooler microclimates of these appellations require perfectly positioned vineyards and impeccable farming to produce consistently ripe grapes.
Her expertly woven 2021 Hautes Cotes de Nuits is a gem– a standout in a vintage where early indications look extremely promosing. This is a product of old vines and a low yield with no new oak in the ageing process. The wine is a joy to drink and super fresh on the palate. It offers a bowl full of berries on the nose, mineral-laced fruit in the mid palate with the structure and length that is the calling card of Cornu-Camus wines. Drink now-2033.

There are very few red Burgundies at $35 that deliver this kind of delicious drinkability that Lydia’s delivers at $25!

A beautiful beef bourguignon or roasted chicken.
This is Joe Wagner and Quilt’s inaugural Red blend called Threadcount. It is a total knockout at the price point for this style of wine. It’s a big voluptuous wine and very fruit forward. The nose is straight up dark chocolate dipped raspberries and it tastes of fresh-baked blueberry pie, spice, and a touch of toffee. It’s the kind of quality blend that you’ve come to expect from the family behind Caymus.

The new release is here from outstanding winemaking team of Michel Rolland, Charles Thomas, Andy Erickson and David Jelenik. This one always represents one of the best quality-to-price ratios in all of Napa Cab and in the stellar 2021 vintage, this really stands out as one of the best the Valley has to offer. It’s a racy mix of Coombsville fruit from Atlas Peak that absolutely roars out of the bottle. Always one of Napa’s great bargains and a must have even as the price starts to sneak up here a little bit.
Winemaker Kian Tavakoli (Opus One, Clos du Val) continues to excel even while others struggle. In 2017, he still managed to deliver a beautiful and opulent Napa Valley Cabernet that’s both dark and juicy. The wine hails from both Coombsville and Rutherford, giving it distinct characteristics and a lot of drive. Deep ruby to the rim with excellent concentration, notes of Bing cherries, raspberry pie and hints of vanilla. On the palate, big wonderfully jammy fruit with young but impressive tannins and great length. The finish leaves notes of black cherry, and baked blueberry pie. Fantastic Napa value.

“The 2018 Palmer is a legend in the making…This audacious Palmer was still revving its engines 48 hours after opening. There will never be another Palmer like this, sui generis. It was a massive risk. But by throwing caution to the wind, something extraordinary was born.” -100 points, Vinous
