92 Points, Parker’s Wine Advcoate
Opening with a citrus and mineral-driven nose, the 2023 Bon Vallon Chardonnay displays notions of wet concrete and petrichor before aromas of lemon oil sway out of the glass. Medium-bodied, the palate displays fresh notions of citrus blossom with spiced white tea while delivering vibrant acidity with a balanced structure possessing freshness and finesse.

91 Points, James Suckling
Crushed almonds, white flowers and peaches on the nose, with lemon rind undertones. Excellent freshness throughout a full body. Cool, peachy finish.

Led by the “Pioneer of South African Chardonnay”, Danie De Wet, De Wetshof has been one of SA’s top white wine producers for decades. . De Wet’s pioneering spirit is evident in his constant experimentation with Chardonnay dating back to the 1970s. He tirelessly explored the impact of oak aging, soil types, and different grape clones on the final product.

After more than 25 years of meticulous soil research and mapping, De Wet identified the ideal vineyard locations for expressive and elegant Chardonnay. He discovered that the alluvial soils near the Breede River and the limestone-rich slopes above offered the perfect combination to unlock the grape’s full potential. Since cracking the code in the early 2000s, De Wetshof has arguably become the undisputed leader in South African Chardonnay, consistently producing wines of exceptional quality.
