Chidaine Clos de la Grange Touraine Sauvignon 2024

Francois Chidaine operates just outside the Sancerre appellation, working the same limestone-rich soils with the same Sauvignon Blanc grape, but without the marketing premium that Sancerre commands. The results here are simply remarkable: citrus and stone fruit aromatics with that signature Loire minerality, made biodynamically without oak interference. It’s fuller-bodied than most Sancerre at twice the price, with the kind of mouthwatering finish that keeps you reaching for another glass.

Original price was: $23.00.Current price is: $16.95.

Francois Chidaine makes extremely noteworthy wines and has been universally adored, aped, and threatened for making wines that are consistently too good. (I hope to be able to tell you the story behind his mysterious non-Vouvray one day but that’s a story for another time).

It was Francois who helped train another Nicholas favorite – Vincent Ricard – who largely followed Francois’s road map of making the best wine possible – no matter what the old villagers thought or how much hard work it would be.

Competing quite easily with many Sancerre at double the price, the Chidaine Clos de la Grange Touraine Sauvignon is complex far beyond its modest price point. Notes of citrus, peach pit on the nose, with alternating layers of acid and mineral tones upon tasting.

A truly impressive wine for the price point – and luckily our previous work with the very top producers in the Touraine had us one step ahead of the critics once again! If you’re still looking for a house white to buy by the case – here’s my pick.
