Cantele Primitivo Salento 2020 (Case Price)

Categories , ,

Today’s wine is so good, from a producer so good, it doesn’t even need the scores. Our first case-only offer of the summer is a BIG Italian Red at a crazy good price.

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate didn’t mix words when they wrote about Cantele’s Salento Primitivo – “this is Puglia Primitivo in all its glory and power.”

They became a pioneer in the region a little more than a decade ago, as most folks were using Primitivo (Italian word for Zinfandel) as strictly a blending grape before they proudly vinified it in stainless steel, aged it in oak and put it in a bottle all by itself.

Since then, Primitivo has begun to take its place on the international stage, in large part due to Cantele and their award-winning Primitivo. It’s fresh, and light – super versatile at the dinner table with juicy red fruits that lend to all kinds of cuisine.

Monica Larner of Parker’s Wine Advocate couldn’t contain her excitement when she visited the winery, calling them, “an exciting winery that represents the energy and the innovation that comes with a new generation” She then concluded her review of their wines, “Cantele is a winery that emits a feeling of constant movement and forward-momentum.” That’s about as rave an endorsement as I’ve seen them write. But this small, mighty winery deserves all the attention and accolades they get.

Original price was: $216.00.Current price is: $120.00.

The 2020 Salento Primitivo that I tasted on last week is the perfect example of what has made this little winery such a household Italian name. It’s got it all – a gorgeous nose of fresh cherries, raspberries and floral notes with juicy red fruits, seamlessly integrated tannins and a hint of spice that shows up towards the end.
