Beaumont Family Wines is a truly special estate in South Africa’s Bot River region, nestled within the broader Walker Bay. Their story is deeply intertwined with the land, as the farm itself boasts the region’s oldest wine cellar, with history dating back to the 1700s when it was a Dutch East India Company supply farm.
The Beaumont family, Jayne and Raoul, purchased the property in 1974, and while they began planting vines, it was their son, Sebastian Beaumont, who truly elevated the winemaking, taking over the cellar in 2004 (and management with his wife Nici in 2015). They’ve maintained a strong connection to their heritage, even utilizing a historic working watermill on the farm. This is a family-owned business run right, and their wines – particularly their Chenin Blanc – have always impressed me.
