Peter Michael ‘L’Apres Midi’ Sauvignon Blanc 2023

97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck – 97 Points, James Suckling 94 Points, The Wine Advocate

“The 2023 Sauvignon Blanc L’Apres-Midi includes 4% Semillon and is a bright silver straw color. The nose opens to refreshing aromas of lime blossoms, candied citrus, salted earth, and tarragon. The palate has more compact nervous energy, with a mouthwatering spine of acidity driving the charge. It’s going to take time for its silky, rounded feel to flesh out, but it should drink well over the coming 12 or so years. Bravo.”

Original price was: $90.00.Current price is: $76.95.

A brilliant, tangy, fresh and lively white whose vivid mineral, citrus and herbal flavors make a refreshing, appetizing blend. Crisp acidity braces lemon, lime and grapefruit flavors with subtle oak undertones. A nice blend of fruit, dried thyme, white pepper and light toast flavors. Contains 4% semillon. Drink now.

Grapes for the 2023 Sauvignon Blanc L’Après-Midi were picked from September 21 through November 2—an especially long harvest window. “It was a special year because everything was pushed back,” Winemaker Robert Fiore says, noting that the cooler season resulted in very lively wines. Blended with 4% Sémillon, the 2023 L’Après-Midi is open and inviting. Pineapple, peach and guava are accented by tones of beeswax, dried tarragon and candle smoke on the nose. The palate is bursting with concentrated, tropical, spicy flavors. Its vibrant acidity provides the perfect foil, lending the wine a shimmery feel, and it has a long, perfumed finish.

Chardonnay Ma Belle-Fille 2017 will be delicious this Saturday night and every other for the next 10-15 years.

This might be the first time ever that I’ve managed to snag a small amount of Peter Michael’s world-class Sauvignon Blanc. It’ll certainly cost you, but that’s because it’s easily amongst the best made in the world each year.

The estate vineyards rest on steep hillsides ranging in elevation from 1100 to nearly 2000 feet. Of the nearly 600 estate acres, only about 20% are planted to grapes.

The newly released 2023 L’Après-Midi gives off a bouquet of jasmine, lime zest, lemon rind, pear, and gooseberry mixed with accents of toasted almond and baking spices. A lively, juicy entry leads to flavors of fresh peach, grapefruit, apricot, and guava

With a 10% helping of Semillon added to this wine, it’s pretty complex and full-bodied for a Sauvignon Blanc and a very serious expression. It’s meant to rival the best of single-vineyard Sancerre and you can certainly see why. There’s a reason these bottles are so hard to come by. It’s age-worthy American SB that stands atop the national podium.

Grilled Fish and seasonal root vegetables are the perfect match.
