Alchemist Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2022

90 Points, Jeb Dunnuck – 90 Points, Vinous

This gorgeous Pinot comes from the formidable winemaker Meredith McGough and her team behind Amity Vineyards. These are super serious Oregon Pinot people who know exactly what they’re doing. Jeb Dunnuck called it “elegant and medium-bodied, featuring ripe tannins, balanced acidity and a clean finish.” Antonio Galloni described it as “supple and soft-textured with depths of ripe wild berry fruits and sweet spices elevated by a core of zesty acidity.” From what I tasted yesterday, I would add this: it’s juicy, still really bright, and dangerously easy to drink right now. Floral on the nose, silky on the palate, long on the finish. This is a screaming value at this price!

Original price was: $36.00.Current price is: $22.00.

93 Points (Editors’ Choice), Wine Enthusiast
Pinot Noir fans should do everything possible to find this incredible value. It all starts with ripe red cherry and tart blackberry aromas playing off of one another in fine sweet-tart fashion. Additional aromas of black tea and loamy soil linger in the background. Then comes a delightful blackcap raspberry jam flavor that is balanced by lemony acidity and fine-grained tannins. There is also this baked good flavor that, appropriately enough given the raspberry jam, comes across like a warm sourdough biscuit. The wine’s texture is extraordinarily silky, like sliding into a bed made with 600 thread count sheets.

92 Points, James Suckling
Aromas of bright red fruit, dried herbs, flowers, cocoa and spices. The palate is full-bodied with supple tannins, balanced acidity and a fresh, juicy finish. Drink now. Screw cap.

Here’s the 2022 Oregon story you need to know: they called it the “miracle vintage” and they meant it. April frost wiped out 75% of primary shoots across the valley. Most growers were staring down the barrel of a catastrophic season. Then summer arrived, warm and dry, followed by a perfect autumn that let the surviving fruit ripen slowly and beautifully. By harvest, the horrors of that April frost seemed like a distant memory. Pristine fruit. Pure, expressive, rich and vibrant wines with fantastic acid retention and real depth. The vintage that almost wasn’t became one of Oregon’s finest.
