It took weeks. I’m not exaggerating – weeks of tasting, calling in favors, negotiating allocations, doing the math over and over to make the pricing work. Because I’m obsessed with one-upping the year before, and honestly, I think I might’ve just done something a little nuts.
Here’s what made it into the 2025 Gobbler Case:
Roederer Estate Brut Sparkling NV – This is the showstopper. Wine Spectator Top 100 wine with 94 points from Decanter, 93 from Wine Spectator, and 93 from James Suckling. World-class California sparkling to kick off your celebration. Retail: $35.
Daniel Ford Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 2023 – Beautiful, high-toned Oregon Pinot that’ll impress even the pickiest guests. Perfect for Thanksgiving dinner. Retail: $40.
**Substitution** The Te Mata Awatea Cabernets-Merlot 2022 is now sold out and I knew I had to bring it for a good substitution. What I got us is absolutely ridiculous and also $10/btl more retail than our previous wine! Really this whole case should go up $30, but that’s okay, we’ll pass the savings along. I brought in the 2021 Castello di Volpaia Chianti Classico Riserva. Not only does it retail for $55/btl, it’s one of the most highly decorated wines in all of Tuscany from the 2021 vintage, with 95 points from Wine Spectator, 94 more from Jeb Dunnuck and matching 93s with Parker’s Wine Advocate and James Suckling. Nobody is doing it better than Castello di Volpaia. They’re unbelievable. Retail: $55
Quilt Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2022 – 94 points from Tasting Panel. This Napa Cab is going to absolutely steal the show with your main course. Tasting Panel called it “built like a skyscraper”. What else do you need to know?!? Retail: $55.
Just do the math: That’s $185 in retail value. Multiply that times three bottles of each wine across four wines… you’re looking at $555 in retail.
