The Zenato family has always been at the forefront of innovation in Valpolicella and often at odds with both tradition and the authorities – pushing boundaries to make the best wines possible regardless of what they’re forced to put on the label.
But this passion project doesn’t make any financial sense whatsoever. It’s drawn from one of the most precious and expensive vineyards in the entire region – the Costalunga Estate – the same vineyard (and grapes) from which Zenato crafts their seventy dollar Amarone.
The vineyard is a special place – perfectly positioned above Lake Garda – basking in the reflections off the lake allowing generally late-harvested Corvina to reach perfection year in and year out.
Their Pinot Grigio is not to be overlooked though. It’s a great little value white that sings with food. On the palate, it is smooth and refreshing with a long, pleasant finish. This baby is ideal with hors d’oeuvres, vegetable soups, fresh garden salads, grilled fish or pasta with cream sauce.

About a billion times better than every-day Pinot Grigio, the Brunori is an electric, vibrant white which combines delicious fruit and vibrancy with boasts a killer nose of white peach, honeycomb and almonds. The fruit is wonderfully concentrated with a salty, stony finish that goes forever. The best part of this beauty is that it’s absolutely delicious year round.

If you’ve never heard of Bisci, let’s start here. The 2022 Buonora Etna Bianco is absolutely gorgeous. It’s an elegant, serious white wine with incredible depth and complexity that picks up nuance and body with each passing second it mixes with air. It’s incredible. It’s wines like this that NYT’s Eric Asimov is talking about, when he wrote of them, “earning attention among the most distinctive and unusual white wines in Italy, if not the world.” It’s a special, high-acid, mineral driven white.
Etienne Daulny is the latest in a very long line of Daulnys to farm Sauvignon Blanc near the tiny hamlet of Verdigny in the appellation of Sancerre. He is currently in charge of farming over twenty small parcels including some incredibly well respected fifty-year-old vines. This is a classic Sancerre, aromatically dynamic, with intense fruit, distinct minerality and blazing acidity. It’s the white wine we drink most often at home. Beautiful structure and length to this with a youthful vibrancy that shines throughout.
This hits all the right notes. Crisp and bright with crazy aromatics flashing floral notes, orange blossoms, lemon-line, honey, ginger, and honeydew with nectarine and passionfruit flavors and a super clean, citrusy finish.
What would a Chardonnay collection be without something special from the master of Chardonnay, Steve Kistler? I was just allotted a few cases of the outrageously good Les Noisetiers from California’s exceptional 2021 vintage. It comes bristling with energy, nuance, juicy fruit and a mouthwatering mineral backbone. As always with these wines, it is expertly made with lemon, honeysuckle and stone fruit aromatics leading to a full bodied, juicy core, loaded with flavors of peach, apricots, pineapple and pear.
Sonoma Coast is well-known as a cool-climate region, perfect for growing Chardonnay. That’s why it’s such a big deal for Route Stock to transition over for the first time from Carnernos over to here. The newly released 2021 version has a delightful energy in its youth, with a pale straw color with lime hues. The aromas are of honeysuckle, orange blossom and creme brulee with layers of vanilla and a hint of toffee. The palate is lively yet soft with flavors of lemon cream pie and merange.
