Widow Jane’s 13-year bottling is a super rare, small-batch production that folks in the whiskey world clamor to snatch up. It was aged for a minimum of thirteen years, non-chill filtered and proofed with Widow Jane’s signature limestone mineral water from the Rosendale Mines in New York.
Notes of caramelized brown sugar, tea leaves, baking spice and lemon vanilla fill the nose followed by layers of Crème brûlée, candied walnuts, and a hint of orange zest.
I only have 18 bottles to offer up – don’t wait too long.

If you could only visit one distillery, it seems crazy but I may recommend you going to Baltimore instead of Kentucky. This new Sagamore distillery is unbelievable. It’s like taking a tour of Wonka’s facilities. These guys are still in their early stages, but they’ve already thrown Whistle Pig off their, ‘Top Rye Whiskey’ thrown. The single barrel I picked out was aged 7 years and came from floor 1 and room 1. It’s a killer 100 Proof expression with all the Rye spices, fall notes, and molasses and a great long and warm finish that stays with you.
This is a very rare single barrel Bourbon Whiskey to make its way to Jersey. Maple syrup, butterscotch, caramel & brown sugar with a palate of caramel apple, roasted almond, ripe banana and graham crackers. This one has a full mouthfeel with a nice creamy middle. The finish here lingers with just the right amount of burn. This was born on 2/3/2017 and bottled at 102 Proof. This is a great bottle of Whiskey.
With Makers you get to blend your own barrel using different different wood staves of varying levels of char & wood. In blending these barrels, there are 1001 possible combinations. For mine, I used 3 baked American pure, 2 seared French Cuvée, 2 Maker’s 46, 3 roasted French Mocha staves. It hits the senses with fragrant notes of toffee, caramel apple and coffee. Despite being high alc., it’s crazy smooth and seductive with vanilla and caramel notes and a creamy finish that delivers a super enjoyable slow burn. For me, this is hands down the best Maker’s Mark that I’ve ever tasted.
I once again found myself with one of the more and limited bottlings from the good people at Michter’s It comes in a round 111 Proof and is a monster from one of the best distilleries out there. This bottling is usually between 107 and 112 Proof but isn’t made every year (only in the good years). It’s oozing with seductive aromas of Cinnamon, rye spice, chocolate and freshly baked gingerbread. Cinnamon, dark chocolate, a hint of Cayenne pepper mixed with charred sugar and oak explode out of the bottle and greet you head on. I wish I had more than six of these beauties to pass out. Such is life.
