I have good news and bad news about the Fourth Edition of Whistle Pig 18-year Double Malt Rye. The good news is that we’re able to secure one of the most prized Ryes ever and the oldest age statement made at WhistlePig. But as I’m sure you could’ve guessed, the bad news is that I barely have any to go round. This is a pretty tough bottle to get your hands on no matter who you are. Of course, considering it’s WP, it’s 18-years and it’s a Limited Edition release, this one makes for a special addition to any private collection or just for the Whiskey enthusiast who likes the ‘good stuff’.
The most limited of releases of all the WhistlePig age statement releases, the Fourth Edition of the 18-year Double Malt pays homage to the to the original farmers who would malt a small portion of their grain to kickstart fermentation. It’s a 79% Rye, 15% Malted Rye, 6% Malted Barley super inviting ensemble that delivers notes of spice, dried fruit and flower petals with sweet toasted oak with a little bit of the influence from the high-end Spanish PX Sherry Casks.

A complex and subtle scent of honey, vanilla, and faint clover notes. The flavors reflect caramel, burnt orange and a whisper of smoke. The nose is rich and enticing. This is a big, mouth-coating rye that finishes long and creamy, but never loses the kick of the rye itself.

This is my third private barrel of Bourbon that I sourced from Bulleit and my first since 2022. Believe you me, they give you a ton (and I mean a ton) of samples to go through to make up for lost time. The winning combo is something people are going to love. Allow me to introduce you to Barrel #5-B3-82. It’s smooth and layered, with a full creamy mouthfeel and manages to sneak in at 104 Proof. On the nose, I get fresh cut oak, vanilla and brown butter. On the palate, freshly baked banana bread, burnt orange and graham cracker.
Back in the day, Widow Jane used to be a staple at Nicholas Wines. But as its popular has gone crazy, it’s been tougher and tougher to get my hands on any. This is a hyper small batch bourbon that was aged for a minimum of thirteen years, non-chill filtered and proofed with Widow Jane’s signature limestone mineral water from the Rosendale Mines in New York. It’s a doozy of a bottle at 93 Proof and has notes of vanilla, nutmeg, graham cracker and sweet tobacco.
I was given fourteen samples to taste through, and found that the 5th sample was the winner. This one is not for the faint of heart. It was a tiny barrel of just 40 six-packs, but the quality here was out of the world. It checks in at 110 Proof (55% alc.) and has harmonious sweet and savory notes that dual throughout this super long and memorable finish. It’s worth selling less bottles to bring you one this good – you guys are going to absolutely love it.
This is a very rare single barrel Bourbon Whiskey to make its way to Jersey. Maple syrup, butterscotch, caramel & brown sugar with a palate of caramel apple, roasted almond, ripe banana and graham crackers. This one has a full mouthfeel with a nice creamy middle. The finish here lingers with just the right amount of burn. This was born on 2/3/2017 and bottled at 102 Proof. This is a great bottle of Whiskey.
