93 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate – 92 Points, Tim Atkin, MW

Zorzal’s mission is rescuing and promoting indigenous varieties from gnarly old vines along the Ebro River. Their holistic approach focuses on single parcels, terroir-driven wines, and minimal intervention winemaking. They’re making wines that Parker’s Wine Advocate describes as showcasing “elegance and balance with remarkable purity.”

That goes for their use of Grenache in white wine too, Garnacha Blanca grabbing 93 points from the Wine Advocate for being “very clean and precise, varietal and fresh, with notes of white fruit and flowers with a very tasty finish.” At just 12.5% alcohol, it’s picked early to avoid heaviness while preserving that signature Zorzal freshness and energy that makes their wines dance in the glass. It’s also what makes it the perfect white wine to enjoy on hot, sunny day!

93 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
“It has a moderate 12.51% alcohol, a pH of 3.2 and 5.8 grams of acidity. I think the signature of 2023 is elegance and balance, and this white, even though it’s the entry level, showcases it. It’s pale, very clean and precise, varietal and fresh, with notes of white fruit and flowers with a very tasty finish.”

92 Points, Tim Atkin
“The key word here is the freshness. Nectarines, pears, melon and lemongrass follow through to a dry, medium-bodied palate and a medium-length finish. Scented, with some peach stones and white blossoms at the end. Drink now.”

Founded back in 1989, the overarching goal of Viña Zorzal is to rescue and promote the area’s indigenous varieties. They do this by meticulously dry-farming gnarly old vines throughout vineyards along the lower bank of the Ebro River, a distinct advantage when you’re trying to produce the freshest wines possible.

Their bread and butter is Garnacha (Grenache). I have had a few from this great winery now and they all share some of the same characteristics – they’re bright and fresh with tons of energy and pure, juicy fruit. They have some good weight, but they’re not heavy. Instead, they’re all medium- to full-bodied efforts that dance in the glass while still remaining light.
