Dönnhoff Niederhauser Klamm Riesling Kabinett 2023

95 Points, James Suckling – 94 Points, Vinous – 92+ Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate

“The 2023 Niederhauser Klamm Riesling Kabinett is pure and savory on the nose that reveals ripe yet fresh and mineral-scented fruit. Round and lush and savory on the palate, this is a crystalline and concentrated, dense and characterful Kabinett whose sweetness is better integrated than in the Leistenberg. This Klamm Kabinett is intense and juicy, yet also so elegant and refined, rather light and stimulating. 9% alcohol.”

95 Points, James Suckling
Teriffic tension between juicy white tree fruit and grapefruit aromas and the smoky-stony side of the wine. So bright and energetic on the extremely focused, light-bodied palate. Laser-beam straight in the finish. Drink or hold.

94 Points, Vinous
“The 2023 Riesling Niederhauser Klamm Kabinett from the porphyry facing southeast, has a slightly darker aspect to it on the nose. Wet stone shines through the lemon, slowly gaining more ground. The palate has touches of peach and is a bit sweeter, but all is framed with tender lemon. The finish is totally zesty. Whoa!”

If you don’t know the wines of Donnhoff Hermannshohle, you probably need to change that as quickly as possible. This is one of Riesling’s biggest stars and their entire lineup from entry-level to single-vineyard ‘Cru’ is a force to be reckoned with.

For over 100 years, the Hermannshöhle has been revered as the Nahe‘s top-ranked site and the benchmark by which all other vineyards in the region are judged. It takes its name from a small mine, or “Höhle”, in the middle of the hillside. This site faces due south with the most incredible soils imaginable.

This wine’s site is right next door to Hermannshöhle on a mélange of Rotliegend and porphyry; some of it is steep and some is flat, and often it feels a little like Nierstein-meets-Felsenberg.

These are superstars in the makings and every year these bottlings are showered with big scores – just like at the expert reviews for this semi-sweet Riesling gem!
