Flowers Sonoma Coast Chardonnay 2023

#43 Wine of the Year, 2024 Wine Spectator Top 100

96 Points, Jeb Dunnuck 93 Points, Wine Spectator

This is an absolutely gorgeous Chardonnay bottling from one of the best and most consistent California wineries, Flowers. It also happens to be their highest rated bottling…ever. It’s a beautiful, racy Chardonnay but with plenty of focus and skillful integration of oak. I love the balance and poise here – so did Wine Spectator who came in with a big 93-point review and called out “lively, mouthwatering and energetic mix of pomelo, yuzu and lemon sherbet flavors, with hints of sweetgrass, apple blossoms and lime zest.” This is not your average California Chardonnay – this is the West Sonoma Coast in all its glory.

“A bright straw hue, the 2023 Chardonnay Sonoma Coast is elegant and refreshing with notes of preserved salted lime, green apples, wet stones, and delicate spice. The palate is full though compact and light on its feet, with fantastic clarity, focus, and an electric energy that propels the wine with a refreshing and balanced feel. An exceptional vintage for this wine, it has the ability to hold up over the long haul. Drink 2025-2037.”

“This distinctive white features a lively, mouthwatering and energetic mix of pomelo, yuzu and lemon sherbet flavors, with hints of sweetgrass, apple blossoms and lime zest. There’s also an appealing grip on the finish.”

Flowers Vineyards and Winery is a few different things. It’s one of the pioneers in the Sonoma Coast for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, a top 10 most popular restaurant brand in the country, an absolute critic darling and easily one of the most beautiful places on planet earth.

When they first were starting out almost 30 years ago, Joan and Walt Flowers had a simple goal: to make exceptional wine that captures the wild beauty of the land and the spirit of the Sonoma Coast. Needless to say, they’ve accomplished all that and more.

Flowers resides in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA, which was established in 2012 and located on the extreme western edge of the Sonoma Coast Appellation. Defined by elevation, rugged terrain and proximity to the Pacific Ocean, vineyard plantings are limited to 920-1,800+ft above sea level and are only 2% of the total AVA acreage.
