Val di Suga Brunello di Montalcino 2016 Vigna del Lago

$75.00

Val di Suga is a pioneer in the production of the terroir-driven Brunello and the only producer making three single-vineyards in three different estates: Vigna del Lago in the North-East, Vinga Spuntali in the South-West and Pogigo al Granchio in the South-East.

The 2016 Vigna del Lago may last forever, seriously. I was pretty stunned upon tasting. This is cellar worthy wine, obvious to anyone on the very first sip. The tannin is so structural, that this wine may very well still be drinking well 30+ years for now. Not something you can say very often. But it also has enough primary fruit that it can still be enjoyed from 2024 onward.

97 Points, Jeb Dunnuck
The palate is crisp and refreshing, with ripe raspberry, candied strawberry, and tea leaf. Its structure is medium-bodied and driven by its energetic acidity, with fine grained tannin. This is the most restrained and high toned of the lineup now, but it will be long-lived and is great for those who enjoy a brighter, more lifted style with tension.

96 Points, James Suckling
Crushed gravel and dried earth on the nose with intense layers of mushrooms, dried oysters and potpourri. Dried flowers and grapefruit peel. It’s full-bodied with refined tannins and a long, elegant finish. Quite tight. Juicy and savory at the end. Drink after 2024.
