Santa Margherita is a highly prestigious and pioneering winery hailing from Italy, specifically the Veneto region, with a rich history dating back to 1935. Founded by Count Gaetano Marzotto, the estate was envisioned as a way to revitalize farmland and create a livelihood for its employees, deeply rooted in a philosophy of social responsibility.
Today, they are world renowned for their Pinot Grigio, the family winery has become almost synonymous with the varietal. They are credited with revolutionizing the perception of Pinot Grigio, being among the first to vinify it as a single-varietal wine, showcasing its fresh and fruity profile, which has since become a global benchmark.
Over the decades, the Marzotto family has expanded their holdings across Italy’s prime wine regions, establishing a “wine mosaic” of estates, all while maintaining a strong commitment to sustainability and the authenticity of local grape varieties.
While Santa Margherita is globally renowned for its Pinot Grigio and also produces excellent Prosecco Superiore and Chianti Classico Riserva, they added a delightful Rosé to their portfolio as recently as 2022. This Santa Margherita Rosé is a showstopper in its own right, presents a delicate pale pink hue and offering up a fresh and vibrant character that for my money goes far and above almost anything from Provence.
