95 Points, Jeb Dunnuck – 94 Points, Wine Spectator – 94 Points, Decanter

“Coming from a mix of Sonoma and Napa fruit, the 2024 Illumination has a Bordeaux Blanc-like vibe in its ripe lime, orange blossom, mint, and spicy wood nuances. It brings plenty of sweet California fruit and is medium to full-bodied and concentrated, with bright acidity and a great finish. It’s beautifully done and just an impeccable 100% Sauvignon Blanc from California.” -Jeb Dunnuck

Fragrant, effusive and charming, with notes of honeysuckle and orange blossoms up front giving way to a creamy mix of mango, orange sherbet and lemon curd. Spicy accents of candied ginger, litsea oil and salted, preserved lemon join a drizzle of wildflower honey and linger on the long, impressive finish. Drink now through 2036.

94 Points, Decanter
A multidimensional Sauvignon Blanc with both breadth and precision. Lime zest, lime blossom and tarragon laced with vanilla draw you in. Grapefruit, kumquat and crushed Marcona almonds thread through the first wave of flavours. Excellent medium-bodied concentration carries a penetrating core of pithy fruit, warming spice from barrel ageing, and a fresh, focused finish marked by a backbone of zesty acidity and tension. Hand-picked grapes are pressed with whole clusters, and the juice is native fermented in new and neutral French oak barrels, acacia barrels, and stainless steel barrels as well as egg-shaped concrete fermenters.

Quintessa stands as a perfect example of the immense complexity of Napa Valley’s Rutherford AVA. Established by Agustin and Valeria Huneeus, the estate is a self-contained ecosystem where a single, dramatic vineyard is treated as a living library of terroir.

The property’s 280 acres comprise five distinct soil types—from white volcanic ash to red clay—curved around a central lake. This diversity allows Quintessa to craft a singular estate red that is less a varietal statement and more a liquid map of the property, characterized by a seamless, elegant “Rutherford Dust” texture, deep fruit density, and a structural poise that eschews the bombastic for the profound.

The estate’s white wine counterpart, Illumination Sauvignon Blanc, is a masterclass in aromatic tension and texture that challenges the traditional California “fruit bomb” archetype. Sourced from both the cooler reaches of Carneros and the alluvial soils of the Quintessa estate, the wine is fermented in a variety of vessels—including French oak, stainless steel, and even concrete eggs—to build a multi-dimensional mouthfeel. The result is a vibrant, crystalline expression that balances high-toned notes of white peach and lemon verbena with a sophisticated, saline minerality.
