The bourbon industry is moving at the speed of light. In a years time I went from being begged to buy Old Forester to begging to buy Old Forester. Crazy, I had to really put pressure on Old Forester’s Master Taster Jackie Zykan to sell me a barrel. She told me with the bourbon shortage that they were really limiting who they were selling barrels to. There was no chance I was leaving Kentucky without a barrel as last years Old Forester Nicholas Barrel Reserve sold out in a week. We fielded calls of people trying to get more for 6 months. As a little bonus, this years barrel had a bit less lost to the “Angels” which gave us a few more bottles. What does that mean for you? Well, I pay a flat price for the barrel so more bottles means a cheaper cost per bottle that I’m passing along to you. This years Old Forester Nicholas Barrel Reserve is $39.75.
Tasting Notes:
Super smooth with a long lingering finish with no bite. Packed with caramel, roasted pineapple, vanilla with just a very small hint of fall spice. Bottled at 90 proof.

Today I snagged a really special single barrel that I have been working on for nearly two years now with Old Forester. It’s a 128.2 proof dynamo that will blow you away, and you’ll love every single sip. The nose is of fresh leather, baking spices & cocoa. On the pallet, this one is a monster & hits you with baked apple. brown sugar, vanilla & cinnamon. The finish goes on for two days long with notes of fig, cherries & clove. It’s big, but she’s a beauty.
The third release of three batches from Booker’s Bourbon 2023 Collection is Booker’s Batch 2023-03 ‘Might Fine Batch.’ These mini-releases have become extremely popular, and for good reason. “The vanilla and brown sugar sweet notes come through very well from the white oak barrels this bourbon aged in for over seven years. The taste is great and full bodied; when I added a splash of water, it opened up some great flavors, with a finish that gives a lovely “Kentucky Hug. My Dad would say that this is a Mighty Fine batch of Booker’s.” -Fred Noe
Our third single barrel of Whistle Pig and the first time we have our hands on their 6-year PiggyBack bottling. This one leads with a nose of freshly baked pumpernickel bread, butterscotch and toffee. On the palate, I get a lot of citrus & peach with a touch of lavender & black cherry. The finish here is strong & long with spicy dried fruits and caramel notes that linger. This one was distilled in house in Vermont, and as anyone can tell you with the farm releases, they always deliver the best of punches. This one comes in at 109.8 Proof.
