The wait time for getting an allocation of Kosta Browne 4 Barrel Pinot Noir is 12 years. 12 years for just 3 bottles of wine! Crazy– but I understand. Few wines made in America are more sought after than Kosta Browne; a winery that has a knack for making sexy, hedonistic Pinot that is almost impossible not to love at first sip.
It’s also really hard to get– forget the 4 Barrel Pinot, I am talking about just their basic appellation wines.
The Cerise Vineyard bottling comes from the famous former vineyard of Saintsbury and is clearly thriving at all time highs (as evident by their big 97-point score). It’s a big and powerful PN loaded with black cherry, cola baking spice, and earthy notes with a vibrancy that shines throughout. It’s pure and silky with a long-lasting finish. It’s an ethereal and super age-worthy Pinot.

93 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate
Another sensational appellation release is the 2014 Pinot Noir Santa Lucia Highlands. Coming from an early vintage that was over two weeks ahead of average, it has tons of spice, black raspberry, currants and blackberry characteristics, medium to full-bodied richness, a great texture and no shortage of depth or length. Already impossible to resist, drink it anytime over the coming 7-8 years.
93 Points, Wine Spectator
Like walking through a rose garden, this offers exotic, perfumed scents. Starts out elegant and understated but gains depth and complexity, fanning out with black licorice, dusty earth and dried herb flavors that highlight the zesty raspberry fruit.

Xavier Vignon’s brand spanking new CDR 100% is a thing of beauty. It’s already got a blessing from Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate who described this wine as, “Full-bodied, concentrated and supple”. This is a gorgeous and intricate blend that features all of the Southern Rhone appellations. This year, the blend was 40% Grenache, 25% Mourvedre, 15% Syrah, 7% Cinsault, 7% Marselan, 6% Terret Noir. Nobody can do it like the mad scientist, Xavier Vignon.
Anne Sery describes her Trousse Chemise Cabernets as an ode to the Left Bank and her winemaking roots. It’s a beautiful and fresh Cabernet with aromas that leap from the glass with of black raspberry, violets, and creme de liquor notes. The mouth gives generous amounts of juicy black fruits at the core with hints of baking spice and a smooth, savory finish. This is a terrific partner for just about anything from hard cheese, to poultry, summer salads, you name it!
This is a sensational single-vineyard Merlot made from incredibly tiny clusters, full of some of the most elegant, intensely structured fruit from high atop Sonoma Mountain. Beautiful weight and balance with aromas of blueberries, black currants, sage and a hint of cocoa. It’s got a full, plush mouthfeel, pristine and vibrant fruit and a wonderful smooth finish. Thanks to Chad’s big bet on himself, he was able to make a knockout Sonoma Mountain beauty, without the need for any middleman, helping us to enjoy one of his best creations at an outstanding price.
The newly released Fiancetto Howell Mt. Cabernet is a dream – a gorgeous, elegant dark-fruited Cabernet Sauvignon that is it picks up time in the glass, unfurls its full signature of cedar laced cassis nose and mid palate of chocolate-covered cherries and savory spices. Only four palates of this (224 cases) were made off a gorgeous, sprawling high elevation spot 1500 feet above sea level. It’s full and plush and finishes fresh and oh so long. The price is crazy for Howell Mountain Cabernet but that’s what Ry Richards and Fiancetto is all about.
