Jermann Where Dreams Have No End 2023

#38, Top Wines of Italy, 2025 (James Suckling)

Silvio Jermann is the undisputed master of Italian white wines. Just ask Italy’s foremost wine authority, Gambero Rosso, who crowned Jermann “the very best representative winemaker of Italian white wines in the world.” This isn’t hyperbole – it’s recognition earned through decades of creating wines that redefine what Italian whites can achieve.

Suckling’s 97-point review captures why he called this vintage’s bottling is “the best one from here in a long time.” It’s such an intricate, layered beauty with “lots of caramel and honey on the nose and palate, together with biscuits, dried lemons and mangoes.” But what impressed James the most was how “full-bodied with a freshness that frames the wine nicely, giving it form and energy.” For those in the know, this is a hallmark of Silvio’s wines – there’s simply no wine that this will remind you of, it’s category-less, and yet demands a place in the cellar for any serious Italian collector.

97 Points, James Suckling (#38 Wine of the Year, 2025)
Lots of caramel and honey on the nose and palate, together with biscuits, dried lemons and mangoes. Full-bodied with a freshness that frames the wine nicely, giving it form and energy. Fantastic chardonnay. Best one from here in a long time. Drink or hold. Screw cap.

Silvio Jermann is one of the most legendary names in Italian wine. He is a revolutionary — a man who changed Italian wine history and created a new era in white vinification.

Heir to a traditional Friulian winery that was founded by his Austrian great-grandfather Antonio in 1881 -Silvio graduated from two renowned wine academies, Conegliano and Istituto di San Michele. As early as his senior year, he determined to explore new courses in winemaking, and soon moved to Canada. Silvio’s voluntary exile broadened his scope and allowed him a freedom of research which would have been unthinkable at home, against the wishes of his parents. But he soon won them over and on the way has won over the winemaking world.

His extraordinary, multi-layered, extract-loaded whites are landmarks of contemporary viniculture. They’re mouthwatering and explosive and have the ability to age. Their inspired individual style speaks of a will of steel, and an almost mystical view of wine; of Collio’s incredible terroir and Silvio’s daring flair; of tiny vineyards he personally monitors, and unique blends of indigenous and international varieties.
