Jean-Marc Burgaud Morgon Cote du Py Javernieres 2022

95 Points, James Suckling

This comes from Jean-Marc Burgaud, who’s quietly revolutionizing Beaujolais from his organic 18-hectare estate. His vines average over 50 years old, planted at insane densities up to 11,000 vines per hectare, producing wines with serious Burgundian character that can age gracefully for years. He chooses to ferment and mature everything entirely in concrete tanks to showcase the purity of fruit and terroir of his incredible property.

Suckling was a big fan, giving this beauty a rare 95-point score and calling out its “Excellent energy” with “tons of savory, toasty, and forest floor complexity right through the long, polished finish.” This is Cru Beaujolais at its finest.

Original price was: $38.00.Current price is: $32.95.

95 Points, James Suckling
This oak-aged Morgon is still very young and needs some time in bottle to open up, but everything is there on the very well-structured medium- to full-bodied palate. Excellent energy at the long finish. Tons of savory, toasty and forest floor complexity right through the long, polished finish. From the foot of the Cote du Py site. Matured in 10-year-old barrels. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

Domaine Jean-Marc Burgaud crafts wines from Morgon that truly captivate, possessing an undeniable allure that challenges perceptions of Beaujolais. From old vines rooted in the fabled Côte du Py, his Gamay expressions are anything but fleeting; they unveil a profound depth and structure, often described as having a Burgundian soul. These are wines that command attention with their vibrant fruit, tantalizing minerality, and an underlying power that speaks of serious terroir and meticulous winemaking.

Each bottle from Burgaud reveals a mix of ripe dark berries, savory earth, and a surprising capacity to evolve beautifully in the cellar. They are bold, expressive, and undeniably alluring, designed for those who seek not just a drink, but an experience. Forget ephemeral Beaujolais; Burgaud’s wines are built to impress, offering a lasting impression that lingers long after the last sip.
