Louis Latour Chateau Corton Grancey Grand Cru 2022

98 Points, James Suckling, 97 Points, Wine Spectator

(Wine Spectator Top 100 Wines of the Year, 2024)

Louis Latour’s C-C is their flagship Red is known for being full-bodied and super generous, but in the 2022 vintage, it’s nothing short of a masterpiece with the hardware to prove it.

Named after the last owners of the château before the Latours purchased the estate in 1891, this wine is only made in years where the grapes reach optimal maturity. By blending these legendary parcels, Latour achieves a “complete” Corton – where single-vineyard Clos du Roi might be sheer muscle, the inclusion of Bressandes here adds a bonus layer of floral elegance and silk.

The 2022 vintage in Burgundy is being hailed as a “miracle” year. James Suckling raved about this beauty in a way he rarely does: “Rich and fleshy with a dark core of interwoven fine tannins and stony minerality. Fantastic concentration and yet so suave in spite of all the power.”

Original price was: $229.00.Current price is: $199.00.

98 Points, James Suckling
This almost perfectly interweaves vanilla oak with a wide spectrum of citrus and stone fruit aromas in a way that’s totally compelling, and this is most striking on the front palate. Then comes a golden richness on the very concentrated mid-palate, followed by a huge wave of chalky minerality. Incredibly long, focused aftertaste. Drinkable now, but best from 2025.

97 Points, Wine Spectator
Rich and spicy, this red features ample cherry, raspberry, rose hip and stony mineral flavors. Silky, yet with a fine underpinning of refined tannins, ending in a resonant aftertaste. The terrific harmony, structure and length signal its future potential.

Louis Latour is one of Burgundy’s most historic and revered wine houses, with a heritage stretching back to 1797 with their roots in the village of Aloxe-Corton dating even further back to the 1760s. They are unique in Burgundy for owning a significant portion of their own vineyards (over 100 hectares), including the largest holding of Grand Cru vineyards in the region.

Among Louis Latour’s most iconic wines is their Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru. This white Grand Cru is a true benchmark for Chardonnay from Burgundy, sourced from their extensive holdings on the prime, south-easterly facing slopes of the Corton hillside, ensuring optimal sun exposure and ripeness. What makes this wine truly special is the unique terroir, characterized by stony limestone soils.

Louis Latour’s C-C is known for being full-bodied and super generous, with a rich and textural mouthfeel balanced by vibrant acidity and a pronounced minerality, often described as chalky or stony. It’s one of the great white wine collector bottles one can procure. They consistently receive high praise from critics for their power, elegance, and ability to reflect this legendary terroir. But never, ever, has this gem received a 99-point score. Not before the 2022 vintage!
