The Clément family have been making wine in Menetou-Salon since 1560, making them one of the oldest family-owned producers in the region. Lying just 19 miles west of Sancerre, Menetou is a small appellation of 600 hectares that sits on the famed Kimmeridgian ridge, a unique limestone bedrock that is also found in Chablis, parts of Sancerre, and parts of Champagne.
Ancient seas once covered these areas, as evidenced by the vast amounts of fossilized seashells still found in the limestone rocks throughout the vineyards. With the perfect balance of clay mixed in with the rocks, this exceptional terroir is white wine heaven, giving the Sauvignon Blanc of Menetou a distinctly crystalline and mineral quality.
The Clément family have been meticulous stewards of this land for many generations and are today led by Pierre Clément and his wife Isabelle. Their formula for making great wine is simple; organic farming, hand-harvesting, gentle and long presses, indigenous yeast fermentations, and aging in stainless steel.
This simplicity has paid off as they have long been known as one of the top producers in Menetou-Salon, making traditional Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir from the top sites in the appellation. This is one you don’t want to miss while it’s in the store.

Paul-Henry’s 2022 Sancerre la Croix au Garde is a beauty. Medium-body with a racy burst of citrus and stone fruit at the beginning, with laser-like focus and a razor sharp minerality that pierces throughout the mouth through to the finish. It’s a bright, fresh Sancerre that’s not too weighty but has plenty of nuance and even some depth. No doubt, it’s one you can enjoy for the next decade.
Just in time, we got back Vincent Ricard’s all-time great white wine bargain. This is a crisp, clean and flat out delicious Loire Valley Sauvignon Blanc. The protege to the Silex-style of Dagueneau – who over the last 15 years has produced flawless and beloved white wines that at last count were on the wine lists of over 36 Michelin-starred restaurants. This is a great house white and one that can surely hold its own with just about everything on the table.
Every year, this wine has proven to be a Nicholas Wines staple. The newly released 2022 Frenzy Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc is a fabulous value white wine, loaded with green apples, pears and white peaches plus a hint of spice. It’s juicy and fresh, the perfect cocktail hour white. It’s what is referred to as the perfect ‘pool wine’. It’s great paired with just about anything or just enjoyed on its own.
Etienne Daulny is the latest in a very long line of Daulnys to farm Sauvignon Blanc near the tiny hamlet of Verdigny in the appellation of Sancerre. He is currently in charge of farming over twenty small parcels including some incredibly well respected fifty-year-old vines. This is a classic Sancerre, aromatically dynamic, with intense fruit, distinct minerality and blazing acidity. It’s the white wine we drink most often at home. Beautiful structure and length to this with a youthful vibrancy that shines throughout.
A large glass is necessary to capture the brilliant aromatics of Talmard’s Macon Uchizy. Aromas of ripe Meyer lemon, peach, honey and mint just blast from the glass upon pouring. The wine takes on weight with aeration, developing flavors of crisp green apple, juicy peach and lemon custard. The finish is long and fresh, so good with food. Roast some salmon, make sweet corn risotto, use it as an aperitif, it’s a great choice for a house white to be enjoyed all year round.
The 2016 vintage in Napa was nearly perfect for winemaker Kian Tavakoli (Opus One, Clos du Val). With ideal weather all throughout harvest, he crafted the Faustini Money Road Chardonnay off the famous vineyard located in the coveted Oakville AVA. The picturesque vineyard off Oakville Crossroad is platinum rated, known for its ideal combination of soil & climate and the big A list names that routinely source fruit. Kian’s Money Road Chard is still youthful despite having a few years of age, probably as a result of its 18 months of slumber in 1/4 new Oak.
This is the “Clos de la Géraudrie Granite” bottling from Domaine de la Géraudrie and it’s a beauty. It gives you everything you’re looking for in a Muscadet. It’s bright and aromatic with sweet stone fruits, but also wonderful, lip-smacking acidity and piercing minerality that dominate the palate. It’s a match made in heaven for anything with seafood, but would also pair nicely with a summer salad, some fresh Jersey corn and tomatoes or even poultry dishes.
We’re nearing the end of what was a flawlessly crafted, high energy coastal Chardonnay release from one of California’s hottest spots. It’s still every bit as bright and refreshing as you could want and it hits with clean, pristine green apple fruits, pears and citrus notes with a hint of that limestone-influenced minerality. It’s a fantastic wine for all seasons, the perfect pair with mixed seafood, summer tomatoes, corn and freshly caught fish.
