H.W.C. To Kalon Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville 2021

**Nicholas Wines Text Exclusive Offer**

99 Points, James Suckling – 97 Points, Decanter – 96 Points, Wine Spectator

This is a very, very special score we have tonight. A text-exclusive and one of the hardest to procure bottles that I’ve secured for us in ages. H.W.C. tapped the legendary Andy Erickson (Dalla Valla, Harlin, Screaming Eagle, Staglin) to make this wine and he turned in one of the most collector-worthy gems I’ve tasted. This one outpoints a hoard of huge names and big money 2021 Cult Cabernets in the process. It outpointed the Au Paradis Cabernet Sauvignon from Peter Michael, David Arthur’s Old-Vine Cabernet Sauvignon, Quilceda Creek’s flagship, Dominus, Joseph Phelps’ Insignia, Shafer Vineyard’s Hillside Select and even Opus One!

All-in-all this is easily one of the must-have 2021 Cabernets made in the entire world. Precious few cases were made and unfortunately, I only scored 5 three-packs (15 btls) of the 10 three-packs that made it to New Jersey! Our price is $15/btl less than the previous lowest online… for as long as these last!

Original price was: $295.00.Current price is: $245.00.

99 Points, James Suckling
“Massive concentration and dense tannins make this wine imposing to taste now, but it has so much potential for improvement with age. Made from 100% Mondavi Heritage Clone 31 that gives tiny yields from small grape bunches. Intense blueberry, dark chocolate, graphite and tobacco leaf flavors are tightly wrapped in fine-grained tannins. A memorable wine that will drink best from 2030.”

97 Points, Decanter
“The 2021 HWC is a beautifully high-toned and focused wine showcasing gorgeous black currant fruit, liquorice spice, and scorched herbs. Medium- to full-bodied, it delivers rich black fruit depth intertwined with wild herb nuances. The robust, powerful tannins are impeccably structured, producing a long, iron-rich mineral finish—a wine of purity, freshness, and precision, with remarkable energy and depth.”
96 Points, Wine Spectator
A loaded red, with a mix of iris, violet and cassis aromas leading the way for dark currant, blackberry and black cherry reduction flavors. Hints of warm loam, licorice root, tobacco and singed alder check in. Everything builds through the long, muscular finish, showing terrific latent energy. Big but not a blockbuster style; this shows poise. Best from 2025 through 2045.

If you’re To Kalon Vineyard Company, who else are you going to get to run your winemaking department besides a bonafide superstar? That’s why they picked none other than arguably the best domestic Cabernet Sauvignon specialist at this current time, Andy Erickson. We’ve been lucky enough to score Andy’s Leviathan wines, but he’s also been the winemaker at Harlan Estate, Staglin Family Estates, Favia and more as a consultant. Those are where most of his 100-pointers come from!

The vineyard that he gets to work with is absolutely sacred, and the fruit from this vineyard is the most expensive of any in the United States. You would be appalled at the prices they get, but the wait list is infinitely long, so the market for this juice is clearly there.

It was planted by H.W. Crabb back in the 1860’s and he named it ‘To Kalon’ which was greek for ‘highest beauty’. It’s become the stuff of legends with some of the most highly rated and age-worthy Cabernets ever bottled coming off this iconic vineyard. It’s abundantly clear from all the big scores these wines wrack up and the crazy limited amounts that we get, that Andy is only adding to this vineyard’s legacy.
