Look, this is just one man’s opinion when it comes to the label. But when it comes to the actual wine, there’s no question that it’s fantastic. Just how good is it? Listen to this and tell me how many Roses you know that could fit this bill:
92 points from Decanter, 93 points from Wine Enthusiast, and the #28 spot on this year’s 2023 Top 100 Best Buys (to be announced online in a few weeks)…AND all of that for only $15/bottle?!?
It’s truly a 1-of-1 bottle.
You aren’t going to do better finding a racy, mouthwateringly spicy, zipped-up bottle of Rose than this Italian gem. You’re certainly not going to find one as highly rated or highly recommended by two very-well respected wine critics. And, of course, you won’t find an uglier label out there either.

Crisp and savory, this pretty, refreshing rose delivers flavors of juicy red cherry and pomegranate while notes of fennel seed and white pepper keep it interesting. It has nice energy thanks to bright acidity. It closes on a pleasantly bitter note.

This crunchy Chiaretto, the result of the separate vinification of Corvina, Rondinella and (traces of) Molinara, is born among the majestic moraines south of the lake. Ageing in stainless steel tanks at 8°C for six months gives delicate notes of red fruits, soft and tasty, enlivened by hints of pepper and aromatic herbs for a harmonious sip.
The 2022 is a stunning example of this wine despite this year’s tiny allocation. With such a small amount of fruit used, this is always so deeply concentrated and energetic. Both its aromas and flavors seem to echo the layered soils in which its grown – presenting their own continuously evolving strata of mint, ginger, anise, and stone fruit.
An outrageously good wine for the price, this is an intricate and racy blend of 30% Cab Franc, 30% Merlot, 15% Vermentino, 5% Colombard, 5% Petit Verdot, 5% Arinarnoa, 5% Carmenere, 3% Tannat and 2% Syrah. All this to say, that this is a Rose blend made with a lot of thought and a formula that has been tinkered dozens of times over the years. It’s as crisp and and vibrant as you’d want – with tropical and stone fruit flavors up front, a dash of wild strawberry, some floral elements and juicy nectarine. It’s steely, and minerally with great acid. This is a food friendly treat or a pink wine that could shine on its own.
The 2018 Uvaggio is the estate’s premier blend of several vineyards and while always considered far more Burgundian than some of tannic behemoths one might more often think of when it comes to Grand Cru Nebbiolo, the 2018 is even more refined than previous efforts. It’s a delicious wine that manages to already be a joy to drink now, even its youth, yet also capable of many years of cellaring. To be honest, one would be forgiven for thinking this an $85 premier cru Burgundy, but it’s not that, and can be had for a much more affordable price.
92 Points, Decanter
Bava’s ‘Libera’ Barbera d’Asti utilizes 100% fruit from the special Pianoalto di Crena Vineyard. It’s a silky smooth, zippy young-vine expression beaming with energy. I tried it around room temperature and it was absolutely humming, but I think this one would be the perfect red wine to enjoy slightly chilled too.
