Domaine de Leos Cuvee Agusta Rose 2023

90 Points, Decanter

“This is a special collaboration between Nicolas Jaboulet and his company Domaines Les Alexandrins and the French actor Patrick Bruel, The estate LEOS, is named after his two boys, and is very much a family affair in the southern Luberon. The ‘Cuvee Agusta’ is named for Patrick’s mother, and is meant to be the winery’s flagship Rose. I found it restrained a little in the beginning, but then, amazingly, the wine opens up to reveal very floral notes with hints of violets and strawberry. On the palate there are notes of wild red berries, blackberries and even some raspberry jam richness. This has really good intensity, and is silky smooth with crunchy acidity — it’s a crowd pleaser, 100%.

“The Perrin family have worked in collaboration with Nicolas Jaboulet and his company Maison & Domaines Les Alexandrins and the French actor Patrick Bruel on his estate, Leos, in the southern Luberon. Initially restrained aromas, the wine opens up to reveal very floral notes with hints of violets. On the palate there are notes of wild red berries, blackberries and raspberry jam richness. The concentrated berries are typical of the 2023 vintage, and give a phenolic edge. This has good intensity, and is silky smooth with crunchy acidity and a pretty charm.”

Domaine LEOS, the exceptional estate owned by French singer and actor Patrick Bruel, is rapidly making a name for itself in a very short amount of time. It probably helps that his partner on the project is none other than Nicolas Jaboulet from Domaines Les Alexandrins fame, amongst others. Nestled in Provence near L’Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, the Domaine is built on a philosophy of deep harmony with nature, prioritizing organic farming and a commitment to environmental responsibility.

The name “LEOS” itself is a personal touch, derived from Patrick Bruel’s two sons, Léon and Oscar, underscoring the passion and legacy infused into every aspect of the estate. The “Cuvée Augusta” rosé, named after Patrick’s mother is a particular high note for the winery, a wine that consistently sees scores of 90+ points and remains their flagship Rose bottling.
