One of Angelo Gaja’s newer projects is the Ca’Marcanda estate in Bolgheri, on the Tuscan coast. Bolgheri is home to Sassacaia, one of the few wines that fetches the attention of the critics and collectors almost as much as Gaja’s Barbarescos do. Like Sassacaia, Angelo’s Bolgheri, Magari, is a blend of Bordeaux varieties, Cabernet Sauvignon, Franc and Petit Verdot, grapes that absolutely thrive in the abundant Tuscan sun. His 2016 is an absolute classic, a wound up, structured, powerful wine that will surely age gracefully for decades. Even better is the deal I just cut, enjoy the very best price in the country on this iconic Italian masterpiece, $49.50. I only have 60 bottles to sell so we’ll make the case discount on bottle one, be sure to share!
This will be a terrific gift for the discriminating collector, do not miss!

Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate: 95 Pts
The 60/30/10 blend of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot in the 2016 Bolgheri Rosso Magari produces an expressive and opulent red wine, with great acidity and definition. The wine is firm and tightly wound, with secondary complexity that expresses itself in terms of tar, leather and spice. The tannins are supple and soft.
Wine Spectator: 94 Points
Black currant and black cherry fruit mingles with mint, olive, graphite and tobacco notes in this red. Elegant, with ample density and bright acidity, ending in a firm, fruit-, mineral- and herb-tinged aftertaste. Well-proportioned and classy. Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Best from 2020 through 2030.

96 Points, Tim Atkin, MW
“This is the fourth vintage of Sandra Bravo’s brilliant old-vine Garnacha from Rivas de Tereso and it’s every bit as good as its predecessors. Aged in 300-litre clay amphoras, it’s wonderfully perfumed and intense, with engaging bramble and red cherry fruit sweetness, fine tannins and a long, energetic palate. Drink 2023-2032.”
98 Points, Parker’s Wine Advocate
“Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Las Piedras Vineyard opens with provocative ferrous, crushed rocks and tar notes over a core of crème de cassis, redcurrant jelly and raspberry leaves with a hint of wild fungi. The medium to full-bodied palate is taut with tension and jam-packed with pure black and red fruits, supported by firm, grainy tannins, finishing with uplifting mineral sparks. This energetic beauty needs some time. Give it a good 4-5 years in bottle and drink it over the next 25 years+.”
100 Pts, Lisa Perotti-Brown (Wine Independent) – 98 Pts, James Suckling – 98 Pts, Parker’s Wine Advocate
“Deep garnet-purple colored, the nose slowly unfurls to unveil beguiling floral notes of candied violets and rose oil over a core of creme de cassis, blackberry pie, and plum preserves, giving way to notions of licorice, Indian spices, iron ore, and crushed rocks. Full-bodied, the palate is jam-packed with taut, muscular black fruit layers, intertwined with gorgeous floral and exotic spice accents, and framed by firm, finely grained tannins with seamless freshness, finishing long and mineral-laced. Tightly coiled with so much latent energy waiting to explode, this is a spectacular expression of the vintage and Napanook vineyard. Still tightly coiled, give it a good 6-7 years in the cellar before broaching, and allow it a few hours in a decanter if consumed before 2032.”
93 Points, Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate – 93 Points, James Suckling
Drawn from some the finest parcels on the storied hill of Montosoli, home to some of the most famous and sought after wines. The 2017 Cerbaia is a sleek, full-bodied beauty that Parker’s Wine Advocate called, “silky and polished” while also mentioning its “power” and “freshness” in their 93-point review. Suckling echoed the sentiment with his own 93-point score, calling it, “full-bodied and solid with attractive tannins that give the wine form and tension.”
