Elvio Cogno Barbaresco Bordini 2018

Categories , ,

From the fourth generation wine family that Galloni called “one of the hottest in Piedmont” comes another knockout winner from their best vintage ever. The same vintage as their 99-point Ravera, here comes a Nebbiolo in a different style but also taken from the estate vineyard with 70-year old Nebbiolo vines.

Their Barbaresco Bordini is a wonderful expression of juiced up red berries and sweet spices, with an incredible texture of tannins that will continue to develop in the glass with each passing minute. This is a great collectors item for Italian Red lovers. The Cogno family has been delivering sensational value and this is no exception.

95 Points, Wine Spectator
Rich yet lacy in texture, shored up by refined tannins, this red offers cherry, currant, floral and mineral flavors. Linear and long, with a fruit-filled aftertaste, showing fine harmony and expression. Best from 2023 thru 2038.

95 Points, Wine Spectator (#1 Barbaresco in WS Monthly Insider)

Wine Spectator recently dropped a list of all their best Barbarescos for their late August Insider Edition. Big name players such as Gaja’s 2018 Barbaresco (94 pts, $260/btl) the Ca’ Rome Rio Sorda Riserva Barbaresco (93 pts, $125/btl) and Falletto’s Barbaresco Rabaja (93 pts, $265/btl) were amongst the highlights of the vintage. But winemaking guru Elvio Cogno once again found their name at the top with their powerhouse Bordini Barbaresco, priced at a fraction of the others, but nonetheless taking the cake as top dog. For the fourth generation winemakers, their wines’ excellence seems to have no bounds.
