Donnachiara Falanghina Beneventano 2021

If you see an Italian white wine that comes highly decorated by multiple wine publications, and can be had for under $20/bottle, there’s probably only one man that can make such a thing happen. I know, because he somehow does it year in, and year out.

That man of course is Riccardo Cotarella, the most famous wine consultant in all of Italy and a champion of Southern Italian wines. Robert Parker Jr. once famously called Cotarella “one of the most influential personalities in the world of wine in the last 20 years” and Nicholas Wines readers have loved his wines for years.

No more so than his Donnachiara bottlings, which are easily some of my favorite values anywhere in the world. With access to a brand new, state-of-the-art winemaking facility paid for by a very wealthy family and fifth generation winegrowers, the Donnachiara project really is unlike any other.

Original price was: $18.00.Current price is: $13.50.

91 Points, Vinous
Ground ginger, green apple and wet stone nuances waft up from the 2021 Falanghina Resilienza. This is texturally deep, with a pretty inner sweetness complementing its pear and green melon notes. It finishes potent and with a tropical flourish. Young peach and kiwi notes slowly fade. This is a suave and seductive rendition of Resilienza.

91 Points, James Suckling
This has aromas of apricots, lemons, baked apples, melon and honeysuckle. Medium-bodied with bright acidity and a fresh, deliciously fruity palate. Drink now.

91 Points, Vinous – 91 Points, James Suckling

The 2021 Donnachiara Falanghina Beneventano is a star in the making. Double 91-point reviews paint the picture with Suckling calling out a “fresh, deliciously fruity palate” and Eric Guido of Vinous labeling this one a “suave and seductive rendition”.
