Lately, this Chateau has been on an absolute tear, earning some huge 90+ scores in the last couple of vintages. When Parker’s Wine Advocate gets a hold of this one, I expect the trend to continue. The newly released 2020 Chinon Vieilles Vignes is a blend of two terroirs, the terrace between the river and the hillsides on siliceous clay topping the limestone subsoil and the hillside terrace on flinty clay over limestone. It’s made in small concrete vats and aged for six months in a 10-year-old barrel, giving it elegance as well as tremendous depth. Red and dark fruits carefully intertwined with licorice. This is vibrant, fresh and ready to go. A Cabernet Franc worth celebrating. Â
