Davis Bynum Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2021

If you haven’t yet jumped at one of Greg Morthole and David Ramey’s wines, I’m not sure why not. You’ve probably heard my rant about how Davis Bynum is uniquely positioned to provide better QPR (quality-price ratio) than just about anybody in the game. They’re priced like Tuesday and drink like Saturday. They’re my kind of wines!

The new release from this historic property is the 2021 Russian River Pinot. Once again, our friends sharpened the pencil and gave us a ridiculously special price that no one in the country can match. That’s great and all – but what’s even better about that is the 2021 was picture perfect in the RRV, with an ideal spring and summer that saw even temperatures and very little rain. As such, this wine was picked a bit later than usual giving it time to naturally mature. It also features mostly Dutton Ranch fruit, one of the star vineyards of Sonoma County, and a cool climate spot that produces mineral laced Pinot Noir that is to die for.

All this to say that the 2021 Pinot from Davis Bynum is the best deal we’ve ever gotten from DB… without question.

The Pinot Noir they make is like a work of art. The wine combines fruit from the Petaluma Gap, Santa Rosa and Dutton Ranch. But what makes it even better is that the cuvee is only put together after each different vineyard block is aged separately for 15 months! Nothing is rushed – instead it’s meticulously crafted over the course of two years.
