96 Pts (Cellar Selection), Wine Enthusiast – 96 Pts, Jeb Dunnuck – 95 Pts, The Wine Independent – 95 Pts, Vinous – 94 Pts, Decanter – 94 Pts, –Wine Spectator – 94 Pts, James Suckling

“A wonderfully energetic Cabernet with a fragrant nose of dark berry fruit, mocha, and dusty minerals. Full-bodied with a satiny palate of Bing cherry, fleshy plums, and expressive graphite notes. Refined tannins have levity, and a soaring spine of acidity brightens the lengthy mineral finish. Grapes are sourced from the estate Hillside vineyard, their Borderline estate in the south of the Stags Leap District and a neighboring site, along with grapes from a site in the Vaca Mountain range. Native yeast fermented, aged 20 months in 100% new French oak barrels. Winemaker Elias Fernandez says he tends to blend early. And with 40 harvests under his belt, he has a pretty good idea of what his blends will look like.” -Decanter

96 Points, Cellar Selection – Wine Enthusiast
This sophisticated and concentrated wine wraps lovely dark plums, blueberries and cocoa flavors in velvety tannins that are well integrated and soothing, while still setting the wine up for a potentially long life. Subtle baking spices, espresso and cedar accents enhance the impressive fruit flavors. Best from 2027–2037.

Perhaps one of the most remarkable and well-known American wineries is Shafer Vineyards. The place is a straight-up institution. What’s arguably most remarkable is that the same core staff have been working together, producing these astounding wines for over 40 years. John, his son Doug, and far too humble Elias Fernandez.

Made in a super fleshy, velvety style, the wine is so smooth out of the gate and will only be more so over the next few years.

The Wine Enthusiast agreed and already started the hit parade of big scores with a 96-point review and a coveted ‘Cellar Selection’ designation. Enthusiast called the wine “sophisticated and concentrated” in their review and made mention of the long life ahead this wine should have, arguing it’ll hit its peak from 2027-2037. Make no mistake about it, it’s a wine that deserves a place in any collector’s cellar – especially those who love great, age-worthy Napa Cab.
