90 Points (Best Buy), Wine Enthusiast

This is a beautiful, crowd-pleasing red that hails from Northeastern Italy. If you’ve never heard Refosco from Friuli Venezia Giulia before, it’s hard to describe it. The wines are deep and dark with big, bold jammy plum flavors but it’s also highly tannic which mixes quite well. This is an age-worthy, structured Italian Red with a small pricetag comparative to what you’re getting.

Original price was: $20.00.Current price is: $17.95.

A combination of spice, flowers and plums, this Refosco hits the nail on the head. Round and plump on the palate with easy tannins that make this wine very easy to drink. A wine that is like a good friend, just easy, fun and always makes you ready to be together again.

The Collavini story starts in 1896 with the founder, Eugenio Collavini. The business then passed into the hands of his son Giovanni, who succeeded in making it through the period marked by the two World Wars before he himself handed over the reins to Manlio.

Manlio introduced modern winemaking into the company, moved the headquarters to the famous hilly area of Corno di Rosazzo and helped become one of the precursors of vinifying Pinot Grigio as a white wine. In 1973 he created Il Grigio, and at the end of that decade he launched the first sparkling version of Ribolla Gialla. The family’s Refosco highlights their exciting indigenous red selection too.
